Are You Ready for a Vacation Home in Colorado Springs?

Have you dreamed about owning a vacation home in Colorado Springs? If you are in a position to own a second home, contact The Platinum Group, Realtors. We have a group of relocation experts that can find a perfect home to fit your lifestyle. The Pikes Peak area has a host of activities to keep you moving and enjoying life. If you find a Colorado Springs home you love and plan to be in it for awhile, now is potentially a good time to purchase a vacation home. Below are some advantages to getting into the second home market:

Long-Term Profits

Although all short-term assets fluctuate in value, vacation properties are more likely to retain their value and will most likely appreciate in the future. This is because they are generally located in sought out areas geographically. Colorado Springs has been rated as one of the best cities to live in the country by numerous sources, making it a popular place to spend vacations.

Tax Deductions

If you do not mind opening up your home to guests, you can share it and charge a rental fee. As long as you don't rent out your home for more than two weeks, you can deduct the mortgage interest and property taxes on your second home. In other words, for tax purposes, you can treat this the same way you would the mortgage on your primary residence.

Rental Income

If you decide to rent out your home for more than two weeks during the year as well as use it personally, you're eligible to deduct operating expenses. This includes interest, utilities, cleaning fees, lawn maintenance, and management fees. To determine what you are eligible to deduct, consult a tax professional regarding vacation rentals. Your rental fees will vary according to seasons and the popularity of the location of your home.

Convenience

The ability to store your personal items exclusively at your second home makes travel and packing easier. If you love biking, fishing, skiing or other activities that require the use of bulky gear, the convenience of storing it at your home allows you to easily make an unscheduled trip for the weekend. This also alleviates the hassle of packing it in your car or hauling it through an airport.

Head Start on Retirement

You may be considering a place of retreat after you retire. If you live in a place that has 100+ degree weather in the summers, you may want to spend the other seasons in a place with a milder climate. By getting a vacation property in your desired location, you can test the waters. Locating and buying a home prior to retirement allows you to experience the benefits of a refuge before actual retirement. If it turns out to be not what you expected, you can amend your plans.

Location for
Gatherings

Vacation homes become a place where family and friends create memories. Relationships are formed and good times can be had for years. Get-togethers at vacation homes bring families together from all over, even if just for an annual reunion. The feeling of owning and passing on a vacation property from generation to generation, especially a site of happy gatherings, is immeasurable.

Access Other Vacation Homes

Many vacation homes are located in popular areas that people like to visit, such as the mountains, beaches, golf courses, and resorts. As a result, homeowners in one location like to trade time in their home for time in a home located in another region. You could swap your rustic cabin for a seaside cottage for a week. This would work out well for both parties.

Interesting Things About Popular Easter Treats and Traditions

Easter is this Sunday and people everywhere are getting ready to celebrate. It has become a fun holiday for families to fill baskets with candy and goodies, visit the Easter Bunny, and hunt for eggs at their homes in Colorado Springs. Platinum Group, Realtors want you to have a wonderful Easter and thought you would enjoy learning some interesting things about some popular Easter treats and traditions:

Easter Peeps

You either love or loathe these sugary coated marshmallows. Even if they are not your favorite treat, they are one of the most popular Easter candies. An average of 5.5 million peeps are made every day, adding up to 2 billion peeps per year. That is enough to circle the earth three times! Yellow and white were the original peep color, but white had been on a hiatus for the past decade. White has just recently been reintroduced, due to popular demand.

Easter Eggs

Before we had tiny little colored tablets, eggs were dyed with natural dyes. Vegetables, plants, and herbs produced soft colors from their skins and juice. Carrots created yellow eggs and cherries produced red eggs. In addition to dyeing eggs, if you happen to get a double-yolked hard boiled egg on Easter, that is considered good luck!

Egg Tossing

Egg tossing or egg throwing is an entertaining game associated with Easter. Children all over the world participate in some variation of this game. There was even an egg throwing feat recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records on November 12, 1978. The record distance of 323 ft., 2 in. was undefeated until 1999. The record has not been listed in the book since 2000 and now the egg tossing records are kept by the World Egg Throwing Federation located in Swaton, England.

Easter Parade

During the nineteenth century, women who attended Easter services at St. Patrick Cathedral strolled up Fifth Avenue in New York City showing off their new Easter bonnets. The New York Easter parade was born from this elaborate display and became one of the first cultural expressions of Easter in the United States. It was highly encouraged for people participating in the parade to dress in new and fashionable clothing. Women in particular would strive to impress in their Easter finery. Many other cities have since developed their own versions of the Easter parade, but are much less formal.

The city's primary employers include 27 Fortune 500 companies and the military installations account for 40% of the economy with a diversity of missions and service personnel. This includes Fort Carson, The Air Force Academy, Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, Peterson Air Force Base, and Shriever Air Force Base.

Mild Climate

Colorado Springs boasts nearly 300 days of sunshine. The climate is mild during most of the year. At an elevation of 6,035 feet, the oxygen is less dense, resulting in low humidity levels. Snowfall is usually moderate and only remains on the ground briefly because of the direct sun.

Healthy Lifestyle

Colorado Springs is considered one of the most active cities in America. Jogging, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and rock climbing are just some of the activities that residents enjoy year-round. One-tenth of a percent of sales tax raises 6 million dollars a year for trails, open spaces, and parks.
